Homelab Academy / Modules
Independent application with evidence.
Module: Requests & Media Servers
Activity type: Homework / independent application
Objective: Distinguish hardware decoding, hardware filtering, hardware encoding, and software fallback.
Using only files under /opt/lab-classroom/class60/, generate a second synthetic source at a different supported resolution and repeat the same selected hardware path. Compare the two FFmpeg logs and explain how frame size, transfer overhead, filter selection, rate control, and clip duration could affect observed results.
Create /opt/lab-classroom/class60/homework-report.txt containing the exact commands, selected backend, capability evidence, output probe results, decode-validation result, and a paragraph separating verified facts from hypotheses.
Do not install packages or alter drivers as part of the assignment.
Do not change device ownership or permissions.
Do not use private media.
Do not present a single run as a general benchmark.
Keep every generated artifact under /opt/lab-classroom/class60/.
